Douglas County Republican Party Resolution

Dated this 26th day of November, 2013

WHEREAS, Amendment XlV, Section 1, U.S. Constitution defines citizenship as; "AII persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the  jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”, and

WHEREAS, members of Congress have a grave responsibility to support the U.S. Constitution pursuant to Article VI, paragraph 3, U.S. Constitution; and

WHEREAS, Article I, Section 2, paragraph 2, U.S. Constitution states to be elected to the House of Representative an individual must be a "citizen” of the United States for at least seven years; and

WHEREAS, Article I, Section 3, paragraph 3, U.S. Constitution states to be a Senator an individual must be a "citizen" of the United States for at least nine years; and

WHEREAS, Article II, Section 1, paragraph 5, U.S. Constitution states to be elected President of the United States an individual must be a "natural born citizen"; and

WHEREAS, there is no single Congressional document that defines a “natural born citizen” as cited in Article II, Section 1, paragraph 5, U.S. Constitution; and

WHEREAS, many Americans are deeply concerned regarding the lack of clarity with respect to the term "natural born citizen” as cited in Article II, Section 1, paragraph 5, U.S. Constitution; and

WHEREAS, Congress under the Federal Code of Conduct and ethics has a grave responsibility for maintaining high standards of honesty and integrity to assure the maintenance of confidence of the American people;            

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we urge passage of Congressional legislation that would define the “Natural Born Citizen” category of citizenship cited in Article II, Section 1, paragraph 5, U.S. Constitution.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Douglas County Republican Party strongly urge the Nebraska Congressional Delegation to initiate and/or support legislation to define the “Natural Born Citizen” category of citizenship as cited in Article II, Section 1, paragraph 5, U.S. Constitution.
