Douglas County Republican Party Resolution

Dated this 11th day of August, 2013

WHEREAS, an overwhelming number of the American people, including the vast majority of Nebraskans, oppose Obamacare and support the repeal of Obamacare root and branch; and

WHEREAS, all members of Nebraska’s Congressional delegation have expressed their unqualified opposition to Obamacare; and

WHEREAS, many Congressional Democrats as well as rank and file Democrats now have joined Republicans in criticizing Obamacare and calling it a “train wreck;” and

WHEREAS, Jimmy Hoffa, Jr., President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, along with two other national union presidents, wrote last week to Representative Nancy Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid that Obamacare will “destroy the foundation of the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class” and will “destroy the very health and wellbeing of our members along with millions of other hardworking Americans,” and even the IRS employees’ union opposes Obamacare for their members whose duty it will be to enforce it; and

WHEREAS, the President has unconstitutionally delayed the employer mandate for one year in a tacit admission of the failure of Obamacare, but continues to saddle individual Americans with Obamacare’s heavy and costly mandates; and

WHEREAS, Democrats in Congress were successful in cutting a special deal for Senators, Representatives and all of their staff members, holding them all harmless from Obamacare’s enormous premium increases that the rest of us back home will have to bear; and

WHEREAS, the Nebraska Republican Party Platform states that “[w]e favor a tax policy that enhances the ability of American families to purchase the healthcare of their choice;” and WHEREAS, the Douglas County Republican Party Platform states that “[w]e oppose any attempt to socialize or nationalize the American health care system and affirm to work for the repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. We favor tort reform in addition to tax policy and regulatory changes that enhance the ability of individuals to purchase the health care of their choice using a free market, non-government approach;” and

WHEREAS, in September, 2013, in the fifth year of the Democrats’ shameful and willful prevention of the passage of a budget for the government of the United States of America, Congress will once again be called upon to pass a Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Douglas County Republican Party expresses its support and appreciation for members of Nebraska’s Congressional delegation who vote for a Continuing Resolution that funds the entire federal government with the exception that the Continuing Resolution prohibits the expenditure of even one penny, discretionary or mandatory, for Obamacare.
